Playa de la Concha One of the Main Tourist Destinations in Basque Country
The Playa de la Conch is surely the most famous of Biscay and giving the beautiful city of San Sebastian an extra dose of elegance and majesty that make it one of the major tourist destinations in the Basque Country and Spain.
Crescent-shaped, the Conch Bay spans 1,300 meters from the mouth of the river Uremia to the foot of Mount Imelda, along the top of Argall, guarding the beach as if two big guards rock is involved. In between the island of Santa Clara stands as natural breakwater that keeps the calm bay waters and safe from the bravery of Biscay.
The comings and goings of the tide mark the changing width of the beach, deserted during the cold winter and very busy in summer. It was the favorite of the noble and illustrious Spanish who, in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century’s, came to San Sebastian to “take the waters”, staying in luxurious resorts and hotels. At dusk, the Paso de la Conch, which even today retains its white railings and lampposts so characteristic of the past, became the city center and meeting point.
La Conch is one of the hallmarks of Domestic-San Sebastian, especially because it is located near the center of the city. It is ideal for many sports such as surfing, windsurfing, canoeing, body boarding, beach volleyball or soccer. It also has catering services, lifeguards, underground parking, umbrellas and awnings area, public restrooms, locker rooms and showers.
It is best after a bath at our disposal all the attractions of San Sebastian just a few steps, especially the old part with its many taverns and delicious pintos.
Other highlights of the city are the spa of La Perl, in the middle of the ride directly on the waters of La Conch, the Tetra Victoria Eugenia, San Telco Museum and the Tetra Kraal.
